In 1985, Pascal Rey-Herme and Arnaud Vaissié started AEA International, an organization that targeted multinational companies with operations in Asia-Pacific; offering consulting as well as healthcare services. 

The next 10 years have seen this operation, which worked out from Indonesia and Singapore, grew into a pan Asian organization, with offices mushrooming in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and mainland China.
 In 1995, AEA International ventured out of Asia and successfully set up companies in Franz and the United States. 

In 1998, AEA International completed its acquisition of International SOS assistance and AEA international SOS was formed, the biggest medical assistance organizations in the world.  That name stayed with it for a number of years until it was formerly known as International SOS in 1999.
